This year spend NYE 2019 in Volcano Village, in the middle of the Hawaiian rainforest. Nearby, you can attend exciting New Year’s Eve events, but if you prefer a more low-key approach to the start of the New Year, you can do that too.

Hilo New Year’s Paddle Out Experience

Most notably, in Hilo, the New Year’s Paddle Out Experience stats at 10:30 pm. Take your pick of a single or double-seat kayak, two-seat clear hull canoe or stand up pedalboard. Then, paddle out and raft up with your guide to enjoy the fireworks and a champagne toast. It’s the must-not-miss NYE event on the Big Island.

Why should you visit Volcano Village in the New Year?

1. It’s remote. While there’s plenty to do in and around Volcano, the village itself is small and tucked away in the lush rainforest of Hawaii. It’s the perfect spot to unplug and unwind. The village is not overrun by big business. In fact, there are several small shops and galleries where you can purchase items made by local artists and artisans.

2. Volcanoes National Park is right around the corner. VNP boasts not one but two active volcanoes, a seemingly endless system of hiking trails, pristine camping sites and so much more. Visit solo or with a group. Either way, you’re sure to have a great time communing with nature.

3. It’s beautiful (and green). Here, you’re surrounded by lush flora, teeming with life. If you’re interested in botany, there’s no better place to be. You’re guaranteed to spot many species of native plants including, Hāpuʻu, a large tree fern, ʻAmaʻu, an endemic fern with leaves reddish in color, ʻŌhiʻa Lehua, perhaps the most iconic of Hawaiian plants, and many more.

4. Putting down your phone and tablet never felt so good. In exchange for your devices, Volcano Village offers a host of fun activities. From hiking and biking to swimming and even helicopter tours, here you won’t be bored.

5. We’re eco-friendly. Volcano Village is an eco-conscious place and, at Kilauea Hospitality Group, we also embrace eco-friendly values. Some common practices we employ are collecting rainwater for cleaning, gardening, landscaping, and aquaculture, composting all organic waste, and designing our landscape to preserve the natural flora and topographic features of the area.
