Seasonal Volcano Village events for fall 2019.

Join us this fall for fun seasonal Big Island events! There are several coming up, and we don’t want you to miss them! From forest tours to OktoberFest, Jazz Festivals, and more, Volcano Village is home to some very special get-togethers. What’s coming up? Here are some Big Island happenings you won’t want to miss this October.

OktoberFest at Cooper Center | Volcano Village | October 19

Join us in Volcano Village for another fun Oktoberfest celebration! This year, the bar opens at 4 pm with beer and wine for $4. If you’ve got a Cooper Cup from a previous year, beer is just $3! $1 sodas and free coffee and tea will also be served. Pretzels will also be served from the bar.

Dinner starts at 5 pm. This year’s entrees are chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy or beer beef stew. Side dishes are brats with buns, homemade sauerkraut, braised red cabbage, and German potato salad. Desserts include black forest cake and other donated desserts. Entrees $5, sides and dessert $3.

21st Annual Taste of Hilo | Hilo | October 20

Come and discover your new favorite Hilo restaurants. The Taste of Hilo features the culinary skills of more than 35 chefs, restaurants, and patisseries, who provide their talents, ingredients, and staff to make this annual event a huge success. A portion proceeds benefit Hawaii Community College. Hosted by The Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Hawaii which fosters economic sustainability as and perpetuates Japanese cultural heritage and traditions in Hawaii. Its mission is to promote the wellbeing of the community through business and personal relationships. Tickets $55, must be purchased online.

Free Forest Tours | Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park | October 21

On this free guided tour, learn about the native Hawaiian rainforests, and specifically the Niaulani rainforest. Visitors will learn about Niaulani’s ecological importance as one of the last old-growth koa and’ōhi’a rainforests, VAC’s role in its protection and restoration, the threats to its integrity. Additionally, you’ll discuss how Hawaiian plant and animal species have closely evolved with one another, how native species have evolved to be different from their colonizing ancestors, and ethnobotanical uses of Hawaiian flora.

This one-hour walk takes place rain or shine along an easy, level gravel trail. Reservations are not required but are appreciated for groups of five or more. Be prepared for rain in the rainforest. Donations warmly appreciated. All donations help VAC’s rainforest restoration and education efforts.

7th Annual East Hawaii Jazz & Blues Festival | Hilo | October 27

The East Hawaii Jazz & Blues Festival has grown into one of the most popular Jazz and Blues Festivals in Hawaii. This musical extravaganza draws enthusiastic jazz and blues aficionados and performers from all over the state and mainland! Enjoy a lavish pupu buffet and dessert station, two Free wine and/or beer tasting tickets, and three stages of non-stop music! General admission $65, VIP $90.
